...then let's chat! I meet you where you’re at and we work to add tools to your toolbox and help you tackle what life is throwing at you. In a safe and non-judgmental space, it can feel so much easier to process through the hard stuff. If food is taking up more space in your mind than you'd like, food freedom is around the corner--let's make food fun again!

but what if you didn't have to do it alone?

Don't you wish there was a "how to" on navigating adulthood? If you aren't fulfilled with work or your relationships, hangouts leave you stressed about food, or you just feel stuck with where you're at in life...

you're trying to figure out how to navigate life...

-CARL ROGERS, A WAY OF BEING

“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be.
When I look at a sunset, I don't find myself saying,
'Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.'
I don't try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.”

Whether you have an eating disorder, struggle with disordered eating, and/or feel worried about the way your body looks, I want to work with you as a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist to help you discover a peaceful relationship with food and your body. I know it feels really scary right now so let me hold space for everything you’re feeling. My clients used to say, “you have to nourish to flourish,” and I want to support you through that journey (even when diet culture makes that really tough).

Family/support system consultations are available to help your support system feel empowered by understanding your eating disorder and how to best help you through this journey.

first step

Let's get to know each other! If you're ready to dive in, we'll schedule an initial session. The initial appointment is a time for me to get a big picture of the experiences that have impacted who you are today. This is also a time for us to talk about where you want to go, who you want to be, and how we can work together to reach those goals.

second step

Let’s talk about it! This is where the growth happens for you to flourish! During this time, we explore the thoughts and emotions that are most present. We will celebrate your wins and we will also work together to navigate challenging situations in a way that feels most authentic for you.

I'm Avanti and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist. I got my Bachelor of Science in Psychology at The University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of North Texas. I have experience working at a residential treatment center for eating disorders and a college setting, so cue the heart of this practice!

I’m passionate about working with young adults who struggle with life transitions, navigating cultural expectations, relationships, parenthood, work/life stress, depression, anxiety, body image concerns, disordered eating, and/or eating disorders. It’s always such an honor to get to hear someone’s story and for someone to feel safe enough to share their inner world with me. It’s something that I never take for granted and am so grateful to my clients who have let me be a part of their journey.

A few of my favorite things: quality time with my husband and son, snuggles with my pup, exploring the Houston food scene, shows that satisfy my inner crime junkie, traveling, and an iced vanilla latte with a good book in the mornings!

Avanti Bande, LPC, CEDS

my name is

hey, there!

In therapy, I aim to cultivate a space that is non-judgmental so my clients feel safe sharing their inner worlds with me. My approach to treatment is client-centered, individualized, and incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy principles. Basically, I meet you where you’re at and we work to add tools to your toolbox. But the heart of our work together is the therapeutic relationship, which fosters personal and interpersonal growth.

So how does that work? We are often evaluated by people in our lives and society, which affects the way we view ourselves. When we incorporate these “conditions of worth” into our perception of ourselves, it can lead to inauthenticity and low self-esteem. Life becomes more about pleasing others or being the person that you think you need to be in order to be accepted or loved. Then, imagine working with a therapist who is empathetic, genuine, and unconditionally accepts you, regardless of what you share or who you are. I strongly believe that by experiencing a non-judgmental relationship, in an environment where there are no expectations of who you’re supposed to be, you will feel encouraged to just be you and believe that you are enough. That’s where the growth happens and that's how we flourish.
